Paste Without Formatting in Microsoft Word

Is it possible to paste without formatting in Microsoft Word? Let’s say we want to copy text from a webpage or an email. When you highlight, copy (Ctrl + C), and then paste (Ctrl + V) the text into Word, all the formatting comes with it. Like this:

But what you want is this:

You can clear formatting after you’ve pasted, but let’s just cut to the chase and paste without formatting!

To paste without formatting:

Right click in the Word document where you want to paste your text.
On the menu under Paste Options, choose the third option, “Keep Text Only”. The icon is a clipboard with an A on it.

And that’s really how easy it is!

Another tip: Do you have a lot of formatted text in your document that you need to clean up?

  1. Highlight the text.
  2. On the Ribbon, go to Home > Styles > and choose “Clear Formatting” from the drop-down options.
